Hiking Options
On Friday, September 4, 2026, hikers will be divided into groups of no more than 15 people. Each group will be led by a mountain guide. Hiking boots and walking sticks can be borrowed from the Paul Langevin Center.
Half-day tour departing from Aussois
Hiking time: 2½ to 3 hours/ Elevation gain: 200 to 500 meters
The starting points for the walks are located 200 meters from the Paul Langevin Center. From there, several loop trails can be suggested depending on the participants’ fitness level, ranging from 200 to 500 meters of elevation gain. Along these routes, several topics can be explored: flora, fauna, local life/pastoralism and mountain agriculture, landscape interpretation, geological features such as the high concentration of gypsum, the cargneules, the Sardières monolith (a 93-meter-high geomorphological curiosity)...

Option A: The Lakes Tour
Hiking time: 4 hours/ Elevation gain: 450 meters
An accessible hike with mostly rolling terrain, alternating between ascents and descents. Throughout the route, we have views of the Grande Casse (the highest peak in Savoie) and the Vanoise glaciers. Starting at an elevation of 2,300 meters, we make our way through alpine prairie. The route passes by four mountain lakes. These lakes, due to the highly impermeable bedrock, are mainly fed by runoff water. Numerous marmots can be seen along the route. It is also often possible to see bearded vultures (a large bird of prey with a wingspan of 2.80 meters) that nest nearby. From a geological perspective, there are several interesting formations, and we can also observe rock glaciers.
Option B: Lanserlia Peak
Hiking time: 4:30 hours/ Elevation gain: 600 meters
The starting point and the sights along the way are much the same as on the "Option A" hike above. But this peak, which rises to an altitude of 2,900 meters, also offers some remarkable views.
